LTE, or Long Term Evolution, is a type of wireless technology. More specifically, it’s a 4G wireless communications standard developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) that’s designed to provide up to 10x the speeds of 3G networks for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks and wireless hotspots.

By fusing power, fiber, LTE radios and private signal spectrum, Rock Island in partnership with T-Mobile has brought this new product to San Juan County that is truly nation-leading in all respects. Designed to serve thousands and last for decades, our Fixed Wireless service provides  wireless connectivity to all who are eligible. While not as fast compared to fiber optic broadband, Fixed Wireless is a massive upgrade to people in the county struggling with DSL connections.

This is a limited resource, and not everyone in the county can access Fixed Wireless. As such, we diligently qualify homes who can receive it based on a series of criteria such as signal strength and quality, distance to the OPALCO fiber backbone, last mile construction cost, current fiber group engagement, Century Link exhaustion areas and more. We provide the community with a list of people who qualify for this program and keep it updated as new sites come online.

There are currently about 40 sites live in the county at the moment that can serve Rock Island Fixed Wireless customers and improvements are happening all the time. Find out if you qualify for LTE Wireless on our service availability map. Follow the instructions there based on your results.

Note: Port Forwarding is not supported with our Fixed Wireless service.
